Continues to build proficiency as defined by the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. Content-based instruction develops communicative language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through readings and discussions of authentic Hispanic cultural and literary texts. For students with two or more years of Spanish or an intermediate level of Spanish language proficiency.
In Spanish 301 we explored communication skills involving comprehension, verbal, reading and writing abilities. A large amount of time is spent analyzing the various components of particular words(MLO 1) and phrases, word structure etc. We engaged in taking a substantial amount of notes which was necessary to help us practice writing compositions. We learned how to develop and improve outlines for our papers, and continued working on learning how to analyze a literature piece; composing a literature review based on a particular set of guidelines. We were able to improve our oral communication abilities and practice using our skills during class presentations. (Learning Outcome 1). Many of our presentations and assignments that we worked on in class were intended to reflect our understanding of the subjects we learned in class such as being able to make certain arguments, knowing when to criticize or comment on particular subject. It was also important for us to learn how to use texts that consisted of varied cultural or social opinions from the writers. We developed speaking and reading tools necessary to help us paraphrase information in the texts that we read in class. I would like to develop further my ability to recognize different constructive ideas in Spanish by correctly applying Spanish vocabulary, such as: synonyms, antonyms, and expressions. I hope to develop better tools to communicate in diverse situations in the real world. It would also be important to me that I further learn how to facilitate my own interpretations or analysis of Latin culture into my own. Most importantly, I wish to develop further my listening skills and improve my comprehension of words during conversations or augmentations in the Spanish language.
